Practicums

The Adult Ministry practicum is all about learning how to build the church by helping people take the next steps on their journey of faith. Students get an inside look into learning how to walk with believers to empower them as they grow and live for God in their everyday lives. Students get the opportunity to gain experience in ministry areas such as Baptism, Life Groups, Guest Experience, Dream Teams & First Impressions, Prayer, Pastoral Care, and Outreach.

The Young Adults (YA) practicum has been crafted with the intention of teaching students fundamental leadership principles and equipping them with practical skills. Throughout this practicum, students will receive instruction in a range of subjects, including public speaking, event coordination, social media promotion, innovative problem-solving, mentorship, networking, emotional intelligence, and ministry building.

In the Youth Practicum, we believe that the next generation is the NOW generation. We train our students how to become leaders in the culture and pastors in the schools. Students will have the opportunity to help run our youth ministry, City First Youth. From a variety of different opportunities from speaking engagements, content creation, life group content, and much more. We believe in YOU(th)!

In the Kids Practicum, you will be a part of creating an atmosphere where kids experience God in a way they will never forget. From helping with lesson plans, setting up classrooms, communicating in Sunday morning services, school chapels, or engaging parents, you get to be a part of impacting the next generation. Whether you are creative, innovative, the life of the party, or love being behind the scenes, there’s something here for you. The Kids Practicum will challenge you to become the leader God has created you to be as you build a foundation of leadership principles and skills working alongside our staff, dream team, and the amazing kids we see every week.

In the Worship Practicum, you will learn the fundamentals of music theory, performance, and songwriting. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students and musicians. We will focus on the creative process and strive to create music and worship environments that are both enjoyable and significant. With our guidance, you will gain the skills and knowledge to become a better worship leader, and musician, and gain the skills to start writing your own original songs!

The creative media world is what helps us tell the story of Jesus and connect people to a relationship with Him. We are passionate about the visual arts and communicating through the craft of media and design. In the Media Practicum, students will have the opportunity to learn and grow in the fundamentals of videography, photography, graphic design, social media, and the behind-the-scenes of creative projects.

The Productions Practicum is designed to provide students with an understanding of church production techniques and best practices. Students will learn the principles of church production, including planning, scripting, and service and event production. During practicum time we will cover various types of church production, including live streaming, audio production, and lighting. Students will also gain practical experience through hands-on opportunities.

In the Original Practicum, you will gain hands-on, in-depth knowledge and experience leading and facilitating a thriving Women’s ministry alongside the phenomenal female powerhouses comprising the Original Staff. From planning for quarterly Original nights to developing devotional content, prepping for our annual conference to being a part of curating and creating the look and feel of our events and merch that are the signature of Original, you won’t just learn the how of Women’s Ministry, but the why, with personal connects with Pastor Jen DeWeerdt.
